Peterborough County Stewardship

Ontario Envirothon
The Ontario Envirothon is our provincial competition that is part of the larger North American Envirothon Program. This worthwhile, educational competition allows highschool students from grades 9-12 to get together in teams and compete against other students from different regions of Ontario. These student teams will meet up at their regional competition where they will attend interactive workshops that give the students hands on experience with forests, soils, wildlife and aquatic ecosystems as well as team building exercises. The students will be tested as a group on the things they have learned at the workshops in addition to providing a comprehensive presentation on the current issues topic which varies from year to year. Students receive points for both the presentation and tests which helps determine the winning team. The winners of each region will then move on to compete in the Ontario Envirothon Championship to compete for the provincial title. Winners of the Ontario Envirothon Championship will then represent Ontario in the North American Envirothon Championship that takes place over the summer. This program is intended to help teach and inspire young environmentalists for future green careers while giving them the opportunity to win prizes and scholarships.
